When to Refer Debt to a Collection Agency

As debt collectors, our company receives many debt recovery cases from Private Schools. Most of which tend to be in the category of unpaid fees in lieu of notice. We are often asked the question, when is the right time to refer to a debt collection agency?
The answer is not always the same, and sometimes you need to take a step back and consider what information you have. Such as, has there been any response to previous in-house procedures? Do they dispute the notice period, or your terms and conditions? Have they moved away, or are they avoiding messages and calls? Do you have written communication from the parent or guardian, which gives insufficient notice?
