Using Liens to Collect Unpaid Fees
Video 3 of 4 in our series discussing issues relating to solicitor fee debt
Here at Town & Country Legal Services, we completely understand that it is not an easy process for solicitors to collect unpaid fees when using the litigation route.
An alternative option for a solicitor, might be to use what is called a "Lien". This is an official order, which allows someone to keep the property of a person who owes them money, until that money has been paid. In practise, this could mean papers, files, documents or deeds that the solicitor has received, whilst representing the non-paying client. Either way, at some point, there must be communication between solicitor and client, resulting in acknowledgement of the debt in question. Unfortunately, the whole process takes time and can be cost-prohibitive, especially at a typical solicitor's hourly rate. As a result of this, many solicitors are turning to specialists debt collection firms like us, to manage the debt in a far more cost effective manner.
Maybe, we could do the same for you. To find out more, please give us a call, on 01883 212121 or email enquiries@tclsllp.com
